Guiding fault-injection and broadening its scope using ODC Triggers
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper draws on the relationship between rapid reliability growth and the trigger profile during the early part of a product’s release in the field. Trigger distributions for the first eight quarters of a product are illustrated and compared with the software reliability growth experienced in the same period. These data illustrate the specific triggers that contributed towards the high reliability growth as compared to the others that did not. The techniques of fault-injection can benefit from the knowledge of triggers and also assist testing and reliability growth by emulating an environment closer to that of the customer. Thus, the ideas of fault-injection are made applicable to a much larger domain namely of products which don't have to be fault-tolerant in design to take advantage and improve overall system reliability.

Automated Fault-Inject Based Dependability Analysis of Distributed Computer Systems
Recently, there has been interest in developing a dependability benchmarks for computer systems. This will require a way to inject several different types of faults into many different platforms and a way to collect and compare the results. Analyzing complex heterogeneous distributed systems share the same needs. The current approach to building fault injection tool is inappropriate for these g...
متن کاملUsing Fault Injection to Analyze the Scope of Error Propagation in Linux
Operating systems (OSes) are crucial for achieving high availability of computer systems. Even if applications running on an operating system are highly available, a bug inside the kernel may result in a failure of the entire software stack. The objective of this study is to gain some insight into the development of the Linux kernel that is more resilient against software faults. In particular,...
متن کاملEvidence-Informed Deliberative Processes for Universal Health Coverage: Broadening the Scope; Comment on “Priority Setting for Universal Health Coverage: We Need Evidence-Informed Deliberative Processes, Not Just More Evidence on Cost-Effectiveness”
Universal health coverage (UHC) is high on the global health agenda, and priority setting is fundamental to the fair and efficient pursuit of this goal. In a recent editorial, Rob Baltussen and colleagues point to the need to go beyond evidence on cost-effectiveness and call for evidence-informed deliberative processes when setting priorities for UHC. Such processes are crucial at every step on...
متن کاملLook up Table Based Low Power Analog Circuit Testing
In this paper, a method of low power analog testing is proposed. In spite of having Oscillation Based Built in Self-Test methodology (OBIST), a look up table based (LUT) low power testing approach has been proposed to find out the faulty circuit and also to sort out the particular fault location in the circuit. In this paper an operational amplifier, which is the basic building block in the ana...
متن کاملNFTAPE: A Framework for Assessing Dependability in Distributed Systems with Lightweight Fault Injectors
Many fault injection tools are available for dependability assessment. Although these tools are good at injecting a single fault model into a single system, they suffer from two main limitations for use in distributed systems: (1) no single tool is sufficient for injecting all necessary fault models; (2) it is difficult to port these tools to new systems. NFTAPE, a tool for composing automated ...
